MEET OUR TEXAS FELLOWS

The first NSDF cohort was launched in Fall 2019 and participating districts opened their new schools in August 2020. Since then, we have welcomed two new cohorts to the Fellowship and are supporting 22 schools across 8 Texas districts to design, launch, and implement innovative new schools.

Originally from México, Flores-Bolívar has worked in education for more than a decade. She started her teaching career as a bilingual teacher in Aldine ISD in 2006 before taking on leadership roles at the campus level. Her most recent position was serving as the principal at Orange Grove Elementary School. She holds a master’s degree in education from St. Thomas University and a law degree from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.

As a Lubbock native and product of the district and community she now serves, Alma Cunningtubby  understands the power and importance of bringing innovative new models to the children she serves. A 25-year LISD veteran, Alma is married to Ricky Cunningtubby and the proud mother of two children, Ana Kay and RJ, and one grandson, Ian.  Alma received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Lubbock Christian University and her educational doctorate from Texas Tech University.

Tiffany Absher is the principal of the new Smith Elementary School STEM Academy. Prior to her tenure at Smith, Tiffany served Hopkins Elementary as Assistant Principal and has experience leading curriculum initiatives as an instructional coach and teacher in Victoria ISD. She earned a Bachelor degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas State University and a Master degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University.

Carolyn Wadley is entering her 9th year of teaching in Lubbock ISD; as a veteran educator who has served in various roles across both high school and middle school, Carolyn is focused on spearheading McCool Academy’s unique S.T.E.A.M project-based learning model. Carolyn holds a Bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership, both from Lubbock Christian University. When she isn’t actively engaged in creating real-world learning opportunities and meaningful projects for her students, she loves to spend time traveling with her husband and son, Zakarl Jr.

Dr. Jackson is the founding principal Aldine Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) focused on college preparatory academics for girls in Grades 6-12, with an emphasis on STEM, college readiness, responsible leadership, and health & wellness. Dr. Jericah Jackson holds a doctorate in educational leadership from Texas A&M University-Commerce, a master’s degree from Sam Houston State University, and a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University.

Dr. Marcie Strahan, a 26-year educator, is a native of Houston, Texas, and a proud graduate of Aldine Senior High School. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education and Physical Education from Jarvis Christian College in 1995, a Master of Education degree in Health and Kinesiology from The University of Texas at Tyler in 1998, a Master of Arts degree from Sam Houston State University in Counseling in 2001, and an Executive Doctor of Education Degree in Professional Leadership with an emphasis in Social Education at The University of Houston. After completing a year-long school redesign program with TEA, she became the founding Principal of Hall Success Academy in 2020.

Dr. Strahan lives by the belief that you need to live your dream no matter what it is because no one will experience it, but you and your life should never be left in someone else’s hands.

Martin is the School Administrator for  Pathways in Technology Early College High School in Victoria Independent School District. 

With over 20 years of experience as an educator, counselor, and administrator in secondary and post-secondary institutions, Martin has experience in engaging and collaborating with industry partners as well as local and regional organizations to provide enrichment opportunities to students. Martin has led several presentations in collaboration with the Gulf Coast Workforce Solutions and Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on the recruitment of adult students for short term training in high demand and high wage occupations to meet local and regional market needs. More recently, Martin presented at the 2021 Virtual Workforce Forum on providing virtual career exploration opportunities and guidance to students during the COVID pandemic.

After graduating from Texas Tech University  in 1995 with a bachelors of science in multidisciplinary studies, Stacy spent her first ten years in education teaching at Tubbs and Overton Elementary School in Lubbock and Memorial Elementary School in New Braunfels.  In 2008, Stacy completed her master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Lubbock Christian University. Following that accomplishment, Stacy served as the assistant principal at Roberts Elementary in Lubbock for five years before being named principal of Wright Elementary where she led for another 5 years. Stacy then transitioned to designing and leading Wester Elementary in Lubbock.  Stacy has been married to her husband Randall for 28 years, and together they have raised 3 daughters, including Savanna, who followed in her mother’s footsteps as an educator, and twin daughters, Addison and Allison, who attend Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles, California.

Elizabeth Schubert is the principal of the new Stroman STEM Academy. Prior to leading the work at Stroman, Elizabeth served as the Assistant Principal of Victoria East High School.  She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M University-Kingsville, a Master’s degree in Education Administration from Lamar University, and is a Doctorate in Leadership 2021 graduate candidate at Hardin-Simmons University.
